Fitnetics Athletes Race in Solidarity with Injured SIU Sergeant Johann Vella

Fitnetics athletes taking part in Race 2 of the Club Attempt League continued to show solidarity with Sergeant Johann Vella, dedicating their performances to the SIU officer who was seriously injured in the Ta’ Giorni shooting and is now out of the Intensive Therapy Unit.

Vella, a well‑known figure in Malta’s fitness and policing communities, has been steadily improving after suffering gunshot wounds to the face and neck while responding to a dispute earlier this month. His move out of ITU has been welcomed nationwide, with colleagues and supporters expressing relief and encouragement as he begins the next phase of recovery.

During the MFCC race weekend, Fitnetics athletes said their dedication was a gesture of respect for Vella’s discipline, resilience and service. Their tribute added emotional significance to the competition, reinforcing how Malta’s sporting community often rallies together in moments of hardship.
