Eurosport Terrex Trail Running League 2026 holds Ħas-Saptan Night Race

The second race of the Eurosport Terrex Trail Running League 2026 took place on Friday 17 April in the scenic rural surroundings of Ħas-Saptan, near Gudja. The event once again stood out as one of the most distinctive races on Malta’s trail running calendar, thanks to its unique night-time format.
Held after sunset, the 6.5-kilometre race challenged participants to navigate countryside trails using headlamps, transforming the course into a technically demanding and mentally engaging experience. Limited visibility required runners to maintain heightened focus, precise footing, and disciplined pacing, adding an extra layer of complexity compared to traditional daytime races.
The route through Ħas-Saptan Valley provided an ideal setting, combining rugged terrain with accessible trails. The course catered to a wide spectrum of participants, with beginners appreciating the manageable distance, while more experienced athletes used the race to test their speed, adaptability, and race strategy under unfamiliar conditions.
As the second event in the league, the race played a key role in shaping the early standings. Competitors aimed to build momentum following the opening race, securing valuable points and refining their approach ahead of the more demanding stages later in the season.
In this year’s edition, Rosalie Borg Cauchi claimed victory in the female category, while Luigi Grech secured first place in the male category.
The Ħas-Saptan Night Race continues to be a favourite among runners, successfully blending competitive sport with a unique and immersive night-time experience. More than just a race, it remains a defining event within the Eurosport Terrex Trail Running League, offering participants a memorable and challenging addition to the season.
