European Team Shield Championships 2026 Officially Underway

The European Team Shield Championships 2026 officially commenced on Tuesday evening with the opening ceremony held at the Royal Malta Golf Club, marking the start of one of the biggest international golf events ever hosted in Malta.
The event has brought together delegations from 18 European nations, with the traditional parade of teams serving as the highlight of the ceremony.
Royal Malta Golf Club Chairman Paul Stoner welcomed all participants, while Orla Kirby, speaking on behalf of the EGA, addressed those present before officially declaring the 2026 championships open.
Malta will be represented in both the men's and women's competitions. The men's team consists of Andrew Borg, Oliver Davis, JJ Micallef Verlest, and captain Ruud Critien. The women's team features Eliana Buhagiar, Laya Cristina, Serena Falzon Sant Manduca, Filipps Schulze Doering, and captain Noah Gratil.
Competition commenced on Wednesday with the opening round of the Individual Stroke Play, before continuing through to August 1 with the Match Play rounds.
The championships are expected to further enhance Malta's reputation as a leading destination for international sporting events while providing another significant boost to the development of golf on the island.
