Euromed International Regatta Celebrates 25 Years of Sailing Excellence

The Euromed International Regatta marks its 25th anniversary this December, reaffirming its status as one of the Mediterranean’s premier youth sailing events. Organised by the Malta Young Sailors Club (MYSC), the regatta has grown from a local Optimist competition into a multi-class international showcase, attracting top talent from around the world.
This year’s edition, held in Mellieha Bay from December 19 to 21, welcomes sailors from 39 countries across Europe, Asia, the Americas, and beyond. The Optimist class remains the heart of the event, featuring 135 competitors, including Denmark’s Carl Bigersson and Slovenia’s Mihael Zobec, both podium finishers at the 2025 Optimist World Championships. Malta’s own National Champion Matthias Spiteri will aim for his first Euromed victory, while Ella Demicoli competes in her final Optimist regatta before moving to ILCA.
The Europa Cup ILCA regatta, now in its third year in Malta, boasts a record 120 entries across ILCA 4, 6, and 7 classes. Local stars include Emily Fenech, Timmy Vassallo, and Katrina Micallef, alongside Olympic hopefuls James Juhasz and Jeremy Moutout.
Supported by MAPFRE, Visit Malta, and other partners, the event reflects Malta’s growing reputation as a sailing hub. “After 25 editions, Euromed stands as a symbol of growth and opportunity for youth sailing,” said MYSC Commodore Christian Bajada.
With world-class facilities and a global fleet, the 2025 Euromed promises three days of thrilling competition and a celebration of sailing excellence.
