Enemed Futsal League opens with goals galore

The opening matchday of the Enemed Futsal League 2026/27 qualifying phase produced plenty of goals, with five matches played at the National Sports School between Wednesday and Sunday.

Lija Athletic began their campaign with a 5-3 victory over the Malta Football Association Under-17 Selection. Andrea Rufa was the standout performer, scoring a hat-trick and earning the Go&Fun Player of the Match award.

Reigning champions Luxol St Andrews, who won all available trophies last season, also started with a victory, beating Marsaskala 6-2. Marsaskala made a positive start and remained competitive during the early stages, but Luxol gradually took control. Sant’ Anna Coriolano Leanderson was named Player of the Match.

Naxxar Lions, returning to the Futsal League alongside Siġġiewi, enjoyed a 9-4 success in their opening encounter. Edson Cerqueira Farias was instrumental in the victory, scoring five goals and collecting the individual award.

University of Malta Futsal produced the biggest win of the matchday, defeating Żejtun Corinthians 11-0. Andre Cachia scored twice and was named Player of the Match.

The programme ended with the Malta FA Under-19 Selection beating Birkirkara AFC 9-1. Despite the scoreline, Birkirkara created chances and hit the woodwork several times, while Luke Urpani claimed the Player of the Match award.
