EMILY RUGGIER AND MIREYA BUGEJA WIN APRIL ATLAS YOUTH ATHLETE OF THE MONTH AWARD

Emily Ruggier and Mireya Bugeja have been named the winners of the April Atlas Youth Athlete of the Month Award following outstanding performances in artistic swimming and athletics respectively.
Ruggier delivered an exceptional showing at the National Artistic Swimming Championships, where she secured three bronze medals across highly competitive categories. The young athlete claimed podium finishes in the Junior Solo Free, Senior Solo Free and Senior Solo Technical events.
Her achievements across multiple categories highlighted her consistency, technical precision and growing maturity in a sport that demands a unique blend of athleticism, control and artistic expression.
Meanwhile, Bugeja enjoyed a breakthrough month in athletics after producing a record-breaking performance in North Carolina, USA. The talented middle-distance runner set a new Maltese national Under-23 record in the women’s 1500m while competing at the Wake Forest Invitational.
Bugeja went on to claim victory in the event with an impressive time of 4:23.22, a result that also secured her qualification for the World Under-20 Championships after comfortably achieving the required Minimum Qualification Standard.
The performances of both athletes continue to underline their immense potential and further establish them as two of Malta’s brightest young sporting prospects.
The Atlas Youth Athlete of the Month Award for April was presented to Emily Ruggier by Robert Micallef, Chief Commercial Officer of Atlas Insurance, with the Malta Sports Journalists Association represented by Chris Francalanza.
Mireya Bugeja’s presentation will take place at a later date upon her return to Malta.
