EMILIO DE LEO CONFIDENT AHEAD OF MALTA’S FINAL CLASH WITH POLAND

Malta’s head coach Emilio De Leo outlined the team’s condition and preparations ahead of tomorrow’s decisive group match against Poland at the National Stadium. Speaking during the MD-1 press conference, De Leo admitted that today’s session will be the first and only chance to properly assess the squad following yesterday’s travel schedule.
He welcomed the return of Teddy Teuma and Ryan Camenzuli, calling their availability a major boost. De Leo also expressed deep admiration for Jake Grech, recalling moments that revealed his character: “He had tears in his eyes when left on the bench, and that makes him a special footballer. It’s no coincidence we are banking on him.”
Looking ahead, De Leo urged his players to stay positive and show their qualities against a strong Polish side led by Robert Lewandowski. “We are still cultivating a team. Results aside, performances have shown growth,” he said.
Grech, Malta’s recent goal-scorer, described his first international strike as “a double satisfaction,” marking Malta’s first away win in 12 years. He acknowledged missed opportunities but called facing Lewandowski “an invaluable chance to learn.”
