The Medcomms Round Malta Race brought the Royal Malta Yacht Club’s racing season to a close in style, attracting a record fleet of 30 yachts across the Racing and Cruising divisions. The strong turnout underlined a highly successful year, particularly for the cruising classes, which have continued to grow in both numbers and competitiveness.

Rear Commodore (Sailing) Adrian Gauci Borda welcomed the scale of participation, describing the event as an encouraging way to conclude the season and a positive indicator for sustained interest heading into the 2026 calendar.

Sailed on a southbound Round Malta course, the fleet started from Marsamxett Harbour before rounding key marks off Munxar and Bengħajsa, continuing on a free course to Ċirkewwa, through the South Comino Channel, and back to Marsamxett for the finish near the Club.

Race Officer Martin Azzopardi managed three separate starts in an easterly to north-easterly Force 3–4 breeze, creating a tactically demanding but enjoyable race.

Overall victory went to Elusive 2, skippered by Aaron, Christoph and Maya Podesta, ahead of Calypso and Jubatus. Despite Jubatus being first to finish, corrected times secured the win for Elusive 2. Class honours were also awarded in IRC Racers, IRC Cruisers and RMYC Cruisers, with Xpalidocious dominating the latter.

Commodore Mark Napier thanked sponsor Medcomms Ltd for its continued support, while prizes will be presented during the Club’s Members’ Christmas Drinks weekend.
