Ella Borg Degiorgio And Kai Azzopardi Named July’s Atlas Youth Athletes Of The Month

Ella Borg Degiorgio and Kai Azzopardi have been named the Atlas Youth Athletes of the Month for July 2026 following outstanding performances in athletics and triathlon respectively.

Borg Degiorgio enjoyed another impressive month in athletics, ending her season in record-breaking fashion in the pole vault. The talented youngster set a new national record, establishing new benchmarks in both the Under-16 and Under-18 categories. Her continued progress throughout the season has cemented her reputation as one of Malta’s most promising young athletes.

Azzopardi, meanwhile, made Maltese sporting history by becoming the first Maltese Elite triathlete to win a medal at a World Triathlon Development Regional Cup. Competing in Vlasina Lake, Serbia, on 26 July, Azzopardi claimed bronze in the Elite Men’s race, crossing the finish line in 56:38. He remained among the leading group throughout the event before securing a landmark third-place finish.

The result was Azzopardi’s first international medal of the 2026 campaign, following previous Development Regional Cup finishes of 15th in Mamaia, Romania, and eighth in Gallipoli, Türkiye.

The awards will be presented by Atlas Insurance Chief Commercial Officer Robert Micallef, with Malta Sports Journalists Association Vice-President Paul Cachia representing the association.

The monthly award is a joint initiative between the MSJA and Atlas Insurance, with winners also becoming eligible for the annual Youth Athlete of the Year award.
