Disappointing Outing for Jesmar Gafa at Vincennes

A disappointing performance unfolded yesterday at the Vincennes racetrack for Maltese driver Jesmar Gafa, whose horse Ioup La Boum was disqualified after breaking stride. Gafa did everything within his control, keeping the horse well‑covered throughout the race to give him the best possible chance, especially considering the long period of inactivity leading up to the event. Despite these efforts, Ioup La Boum struggled to maintain rhythm during several phases of the race before finally breaking stride in the last 650 metres, leading to an automatic disqualification.
The prestigious Coupe Intercontinentale des Amateurs was ultimately won by Belgian driver Piet Van Pollaert aboard Jawax de Keryann, who delivered a composed and well‑timed performance to secure the title.
Gafa’s setback highlights the unpredictable nature of trotting competitions, where even experienced drivers can find themselves at the mercy of a horse’s form on the day. While the result was far from ideal, the outing may still serve as a valuable step in Ioup La Boum’s return to competitive racing. With more conditioning and race rhythm, connections will hope for a stronger showing in upcoming events as the season progresses.
