Dillon Cassar Shines on Marathon Debut in Rotterdam

Maltese athlete Dillon Cassar delivered a sensational marathon debut in Rotterdam, stopping the clock at 2:17:49 to become the second-fastest Maltese marathoner in history and the second-fastest Maltese debutant. His performance placed him 29th overall in a highly competitive international field, made even tougher by windy race conditions.
Cassar’s journey to the marathon stage was months in the making, marked by relentless training, discipline, and a commitment to stepping up to the long‑distance challenge. Guided by his father and coach, he pushed through demanding sessions, fatigue, and sacrifice to produce a debut that exceeded expectations.
The achievement carried deep personal meaning for the Zurrieq Wolves Athletic Club runner, who credited his family, friends, and girlfriend for their unwavering support. He also highlighted the pride of performing for his young child, calling it his greatest motivation.
Cassar’s run also set a new club record for Zurrieq Wolves AC, further cementing his status as one of Malta’s leading endurance athletes. He expressed gratitude to his sponsors, including TeamSport, VisitMalta, The MET Hub, Coros MT, and others who supported his journey.
With recovery now underway, Cassar has already set his sights on his next target proof that this breakthrough is only the beginning.
