Dillon Cassar edges closer to sub‑30 after storming Elite outing
Local

Maltese elite runner Dillon Cassar made a powerful statement on his return to racing, lining up for his first event since the marathon after nearly two weeks of illness and only a short training block behind him. Despite doubts about whether he would even make it to the start, Cassar drew strength from his coach, family, friends and support circle, who kept believing when he struggled to.

That belief paid off. Cassar delivered a brilliant performance, clocking 29:57 gun time and 30:02 chip time, an 18‑second personal best compared to his previous mark set almost three years ago on a faster course.

On a tougher route and battling a fierce 35km/h headwind, he fought through every section, showing resilience, maturity and race intelligence.

With sub‑30 now within touching distance, Cassar heads into shorter races next as he builds toward his major 2026 goals.
