Rumours of Portela's exit emerged after Floriana's 1-1 draw to Balzan last Sunday, with Paul Mbong convertig from the spot to save a point for the greens.

It has been reported that after Sunday's match, Portela was absent from Floriana FC's training sessions throughout the entire week, even thought the club did not post any official statement confirming the coach's resignation.

Yesterday, Portela returned and took charge of the team's training session, with all those following Maltese football awaiting the final verdict on the matter.
