Daniel Debono to represent Malta at European Apprentice Drivers’ Championship

Malta’s rising trotting driver Daniel Debono has been selected to represent the country at the UET European Apprentice Drivers’ Championship, taking place on Sunday, 23 August 2026, at Dundalk Stadium in Ireland. The 20‑year‑old was chosen by the Malta Racing Club following steady progress and standout performances across the past seasons.
Debono, now in his fifth year of competition, has built a reputation as one of Malta’s most promising young drivers. He made his official debut on 16 September 2022, immediately marking the occasion with a victory aboard Croque Tout. Since then, he has continued to develop, with 2026 proving his strongest season yet, securing five wins and bringing his career total to ten official victories. Last year, he also finished second in the Malta Racing Club’s Under‑25 standings.
His participation is being supported by EquestriMalta, whose ongoing investment in youth development is providing Maltese drivers with valuable international exposure. Debono will compete against eleven other emerging talents from across Europe, including representatives from Ireland, France, Germany, Norway, Belgium, Finland, Sweden, Spain, the Netherlands and Hungary. The championship consists of multiple races, with points accumulated to determine the 2026 European Apprentice Champion.
Debono’s debut marks an important milestone for Maltese trotting, offering him the chance to compete proudly on the international stage and continue his rapid development within the sport.
