Young Maltese driver Daniel Debono will represent Malta in the UET's European Apprentices Drivers Championship, which will be held on Sunday, 23 August 2026 at Dundalk Stadium in Ireland.

The 20-year-old was selected by the Malta Racing Club to participate in this prestigious international championship, which will bring together 12 promising young drivers representing their respective European countries.

Daniel Debono’s participation is being sponsored by EquestriMalta, whose continued support is providing young Maltese drivers with valuable opportunities to gain international experience and further their development within the sport.

Debono is in his fifth year of competitive racing and is making a name for himself as a promising young driver. He made his debut in an official race on 16 September 2022, immediately marking the occasion with a victory aboard CROQUE TOUT.

Since then, he has continued to develop his experience on the track and with this year being his most prolific with 5 victories, half his total ten official victories to date. Last year, Debono finished second best driver for the year in the Malta Racing Club’s best driver under 25 years category.

The Maltese representative will compete against Eoin Murphy of Ireland, Oliver O’Mara of Great Britain, Léo Guenet of France, Kalle Krohmer of Germany, Sebastian Rishovd of Norway, Lynus Lannoo of Belgium, Väinö-Kalle Korhonen of Finland, Malte Handfast of Sweden, Adrià Riera Vaquer of Spain, Danique Homma of the Netherlands and Tamás Dukai of Hungary.

The drivers will compete across a series of races, accumulating points in their bid to be crowned European Apprentice Driver Champion for 2026.

The championship will also be Daniel Debono's first participation on the international stage, with an opportunity to compete alongside some of Europe’s most promising young drivers while proudly representing Malta and Maltese trot racing.

The Malta Racing Club wishes Daniel Debono every success in this important international appointment.
