Since 2013, the ALIVE Charity Foundation has become one of Malta’s most impactful voluntary organisations, raising an impressive €1.1 million for cancer research through the RIDT. At the heart of this mission is the ALIVE Cycling Challenge for Cancer a six‑day, 1,100 km endurance test that blends athletic grit with a powerful humanitarian purpose. Among the driving forces behind this initiative is Max Borg, whose journey with ALIVE began in 2016 and has since evolved into a deep personal commitment.

Max explains that his motivation was born from a desire to turn helplessness into action. Inspired by the struggles of friends and families affected by cancer, he found meaning in using cycling a sport he only discovered in 2016 as a vehicle for hope. Today, as manager of ALIVE2026, he carries an even greater sense of responsibility, knowing that every logistical decision and every kilometre cycled contributes to future cancer research in Malta.

Training for the challenge is relentless: 17 weeks, 5,000 km, early mornings, fatigue, and constant balancing of work and family life. Yet Max emphasises that the cause reshapes their mindset. When exhaustion hits, he remembers that cancer patients cannot simply stop. The toughest moments especially when adrenaline fades and long distances remain are overcome through teamwork, donor support, and the shared belief that every pedal stroke fuels vital scientific progress.
