Community Grieves Loss of Danjel Cuschieri and His Father Steve Cimenes Cuschieri

The Maltese football community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of 19‑year‑old footballer Danjel Cuschieri, who died yesterday, followed only hours later by the passing of his father, Steve Cimenes Cuschieri, after a battle with cancer. The double tragedy has left relatives, friends and the wider sporting community in deep shock.

Danjel, remembered for his dedication, talent and warm character, had previously played for Qrendi F.C., Dingli Swallows, Żebbuġ Rangers and Xewkija Tigers. All clubs expressed profound sorrow at the loss of their former player, describing him as a committed young athlete whose passion for football left a lasting impression on teammates, coaches and supporters.

Tributes have also poured in for Steve, remembered as a generous and supportive figure. One of his nieces wrote an emotional message, saying he had been like a second father to her and her siblings, always ready to help and guide them.
