Malta’s hosting of the eighth edition of the Commonwealth Youth Games in 2027 was officially launched during the Commonwealth Sport General Assembly held in Glasgow, Scotland. The event brought together delegates from all 74 Commonwealth Sport Associations for this biennial cornerstone meeting.

Following the signing agreement in Malta last July, outgoing Secretary General of Commonwealth Sport Malta, Kevin Azzopardi, extended an official invitation to all nations and territories. He also delivered a detailed presentation outlining the sports programme: six disciplines will take place in Malta—athletics (including para-athletics), swimming (including para-swimming), sailing, squash, water polo, and weightlifting—while Gozo will host netball and triathlon.

The Games, scheduled between 29 October and 4 November 2027, are expected to attract over 1,000 athletes and 600 coaches and officials. Two days after the Games conclude, Malta will also host the Commonwealth Sport General Assembly.

In a symbolic gesture, Commonwealth Sport President Dr. Donald Rukare presented the quaich, the event’s iconic symbol, to Commonwealth Sport Malta President Julian Pace Bonello. “This moment embodies Malta’s commitment to empowering young athletes and celebrating the values of friendship, inclusion, and fair play,” Pace Bonello stated. “In 2027, we will open our doors to the world and create a Games that leaves a lasting legacy for our youth and our country.”
