City of Football Ta’ Qali Project Unanimously Approved

The Malta Football Association’s ambitious project to regenerate its Ta’ Qali facilities has been unanimously approved by the General Assembly, marking a major milestone in the Association’s long‑term infrastructural vision. The masterplan, developed after extensive consultation with internal and external stakeholders, will reshape the area into a modern, fully connected sports hub known as City of Football Ta’ Qali.

Senior Vice-President Dr Matthew Paris, who also chairs the National Stadium Modernisation Committee, outlined the project’s three core pillars: the partial reconstruction and modernisation of the National Stadium, the expansion of the Centenary Stadium, and the construction of a new compact stadium dedicated to youth football for both men and women. He emphasised that, despite past upgrades, the National Stadium now requires substantial investment to meet contemporary standards.

With the Assembly’s mandate secured, the Malta FA will move to the next phases, including extending the legal title of the Ta’ Qali site, presenting the project to Government and Parliament, engaging technical experts, and securing financing. The initiative has already received cross‑party political support, with both the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition endorsing the vision.

The masterplan also includes new beach soccer facilities and enhanced commercial, sporting, and fan‑experience spaces, positioning Ta’ Qali as a future landmark for Maltese sport.
