Cirovic’s Era Ends with Emotional Tribute from ASA President

Maltese water polo today marked the end of an important chapter as Milan Cirovic completed his final day as Head Coach of the National Team. In an emotional message, ASA President Karl Izzo paid tribute to Cirovic’s immense contribution, describing him as an exceptional professional, a disciplined leader, a mentor of integrity, and a true friend.

Izzo recalled that Cirovic had been his first and only choice for the role a decision he never once regretted. Under Cirovic’s guidance, Malta achieved historic milestones: 18th place in the world, 13th in Europe at senior level, and 9th in Europe at U20 level, alongside several notable achievements across junior categories. These results, Izzo stressed, represent only part of Cirovic’s legacy.

Cirovic transformed Malta’s national team structure by instilling professionalism, discipline, belief and a winning mentality. He raised standards, strengthened development pathways and left Maltese water polo significantly stronger than when he arrived.

Izzo expressed deep gratitude for Cirovic’s loyalty and commitment, noting he will be very difficult to replace and will be missed both professionally and personally. Yet he closed with optimism, insisting this is not a final farewell: Once part of our water polo family, always part of our family.
