Chetcuti duo impress on opening day of trap shooting in Taranto

Malta’s trap shooters delivered a composed and disciplined opening day at the XX Mediterranean Games in Taranto, with Gianluca Chetcuti and William Chetcuti both producing competitive scores in challenging conditions.
Gianluca sits provisionally in 2nd place after an excellent 73/75 (24, 24, 25), showing consistency across all three rounds and finishing the day among the event’s top performers. His final round was particularly impressive, maintaining accuracy despite the rising heat and shifting wind that affected shooters throughout the afternoon.
William Chetcuti also remains firmly in contention, placing 9th on 72/75 (25, 25, 22). His opening two rounds were flawless, and although the wind picked up during his final series, he stayed composed to keep Malta well represented in the upper half of the leaderboard.
With two more qualification rounds scheduled for tomorrow morning and the final set for the afternoon, both Maltese athletes head into Day Two with strong momentum and realistic hopes of progressing into the medal phase.
