Charles Darmanin celebrated for remarkable Malta Marathon legacy

Charles Darmanin has once again proven why he remains one of the most iconic figures in Maltese distance running. His participation in this year’s Malta Marathon marks yet another milestone in an extraordinary athletic journey defined by dedication, consistency and an unwavering love for the sport.
Darmanin holds a unique place in the event’s history: he is the only athlete to have completed every edition of the Malta Marathon. From the 26th edition onwards, he became the sole runner to maintain a perfect streak, earning the honour of wearing the bib number corresponding to each year’s race. In Sunday’s marathon, he proudly carried bib number 41, symbolising more than four decades of commitment.
Adding to the sense of history, Darmanin has preserved the original flyer from the very first marathon held in 1986 — a rare keepsake that reflects his deep connection to the event. His athletic achievements are equally impressive, having completed the full marathon three times in under three hours, with a personal best of 2:51, averaging a strong 4:05 per kilometre.
Charles Darmanin’s story is one of endurance, passion and inspiration, earning him admiration across Malta’s sporting community.
