Caruana Dingli duo shine with records and European gold in Šamorín

Malta’s father‑and‑son masters swimming duo, Edward Caruana‑Dingli and Joseph Caruana‑Dingli, delivered a standout day at the European Masters Championships in Šamorín, Slovakia, producing national records and a continental title in a memorable set of performances.
The morning session set the tone. Edward opened Malta’s account by establishing a new national record in the 400m Individual Medley (M30–34), showing strong control across all four strokes and signalling excellent form early in the meet. Minutes later, Joseph added to Malta’s celebrations by breaking the 50m Breaststroke (M60–64) national record, continuing his long‑standing reputation as one of the country’s most reliable masters competitors.
The highlight arrived in the afternoon when Edward stormed to gold in the 200m Backstroke (M30–34), earning him the title of European Champion in his age category. His victory capped a remarkable day for the Caruana‑Dingli family and strengthened Malta’s presence at the continental event.
