Louis Thomas Buffon, son of legendary Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon, made his Serie A debut on Sunday afternoon, coming off the bench during Pisa’s 4-0 defeat to Bologna.

The appearance came almost exactly 30 years after his father’s own Serie A debut, marking a special milestone for the Buffon family.

The 17-year-old, who joined Pisa in 2023, was named among the substitutes for the match at the Dall’Ara Stadium. Pisa were reduced to ten men just after the half-hour mark, allowing Bologna to dominate.

Goals from Nicolo Cambiaghi, Nikola Moro, Riccardo Orsolini and Jens Odgaard left the visitors trailing heavily.

With the result all but sealed, Pisa coach Alberto Gilardino introduced Buffon in the 77th minute, replacing M’Bala Nzola. A forward by trade, Buffon usually plays as a winger but operated more centrally during his brief debut appearance.

Though still early in his career, Buffon has already featured three times for Czechia at youth international level, thanks to eligibility through his mother. However, he remains available to represent Italy at youth levels in the future.
