BOV Volleyball Marathon Officially Opens in Aid of Id-Dar tal-Providenza

The 16th edition of the BOV Volleyball Marathon in aid of Id-Dar tal-Providenza was officially inaugurated on Thursday by President of Malta, H.E. Dr Myriam Spiteri Debono. This year's event is being held for the first time at the Malta Fairs and Conventions Centre (MFCC) in Ta' Qali and will run continuously until Saturday evening.
A total of 40 players, selected from more than 60 applicants, began the demanding challenge of playing volleyball non-stop for 53 hours to raise funds for the charity.
During the opening ceremony, President Spiteri Debono praised the event as a celebration of resilience, generosity and solidarity, describing Id-Dar tal-Providenza as a pillar of social welfare that helps ensure vulnerable individuals are treated with dignity and respect.
Prime Minister Robert Abela highlighted the strong volunteering spirit shown by the Maltese and Gozitan people and announced a €20,000 donation from the Social Causes Fund. He also reaffirmed the Government's commitment to strengthening the rights and protection of persons with disabilities and vulnerable adults.
Mgr Martin Micallef, Director of Id-Dar tal-Providenza, thanked the players, volunteers, sponsors and supporters who made the marathon possible. He noted that the Home requires around €8 million annually to continue providing its services.
Visitors to the marathon can enjoy live entertainment, a charity 5K run, a DJ takeover, a children's area and a food court. The event is being broadcast live on local television stations, with the public encouraged to support the cause through donations and participation throughout the weekend.
