BOV Gozo Weekend Returns As Part Of Royal Malta Yacht Club Autumn Calendar

The BOV Gozo Weekend returns this November as part of the Royal Malta Yacht Club's autumn calendar, combining competitive racing with a destination format and a welcoming social programme.
The BOV Gozo Weekend continues to draw racers and cruisers alike, with 25 boats already registered across three classes: IRC Racer, IRC Cruiser and RMYC Club Class.
For many crews, the weekend is a welcome opportunity to return to the water together following their efforts in the Rolex Middle Sea Race, while others will be joining the fleet for the first time this season.
In the IRC Racers Class, attention will once again turn to Calypso 3.0. Skippered by Seb Ripard, Calypso was last year’s overall winner and returns aiming for a third consecutive title. With a competitive line-up of entries already confirmed, however, the crew can expect to be tested throughout the weekend.
The RMYC Club Class, will welcome a number of new names alongside the return of several class regulars. Among them is RMYC Committee Member Aaron Gatt Floridia, who returns to the class this year with his own yacht, Otra Vez. Gatt Floridia raced on board Nenya last year, winning the class in the process, and will be looking to carry that form into this year’s event.
As always, the BOV Gozo Weekend is as much about the time spent ashore as on the water, and the social programme extends a warm welcome to crews’ families and friends.
Following racing on Saturday, participants will gather on the pontoons for happy hour, with pastizzi and beer. The traditional fenkata also forms part of the programme and is open to all, including those not taking part in the regatta who will be in Gozo for the weekend.
The weekend concludes on Sunday with the passage race back to Malta, followed by a prize giving evening at the Royal Malta Yacht Club.
