Bank of Valletta and the Malta Football Association have entered into a three‑year Memorandum of Understanding aimed at reinforcing the fight against financial crime within Maltese football. The agreement was signed at the Malta FA headquarters by BOV CEO Kenneth Farrugia, MFA President Bjorn Vassallo, and MFA General Secretary Dr Maria Azzopardi, in the presence of senior officials from both organisations.

The partnership focuses on enhancing resilience through joint initiatives centred on public education, awareness campaigns, and improved governance practices. These efforts will highlight common financial scams, promote responsible conduct, and strengthen due diligence across football structures. The MoU also establishes a framework for secure information exchange, shared expertise, and specialised training to support investigative capabilities and protect stakeholders.

Kenneth Farrugia emphasised the importance of embedding transparency, integrity, and accountability across all organisations operating within the financial system, including football clubs. Bjorn Vassallo described the collaboration as a strategic step toward stronger compliance and risk awareness, noting that knowledge sharing will play a crucial role in safeguarding the sport.

This agreement marks BOV’s second major partnership of 2026 in its ongoing commitment to combating financial crime, following a similar initiative with the Malta Police Force earlier this year.
