Bonello and Mbong Set for Ħamrun Exit as Portelli Outlines New Five‑Year Plan

Ħamrun Spartans president Joseph Portelli used the club’s Annual General Meeting to signal the start of what he believes will be another successful five‑year chapter, confirming a €3.25 million budget for the coming season. Portelli revealed that Henry Bonello and Joseph Mbong are both expected to leave the club, with the pair unwilling to continue working under head coach Giacomo Modica. He reassured supporters that new signings are imminent, including two wingers already lined up.
Addressing the club’s finances, Portelli noted he has invested €7 million over seven years, stressing that he has no intention of reclaiming any of it, even if he steps aside. He confirmed that Emerson Marcelina, Ognjen Bjelica, Eder Bruno and Vincenzo Polito will remain part of next season’s squad. Within the technical staff, only assistant coach Vincenzo Modica has been retained, with further backroom changes expected.
