Blackburn Rovers Celebrate 150 Years with Special Maltese-Inspired Anniversary Shirt

Blackburn Rovers are marking their 150th anniversary with a special retro shirt that pays tribute to the club’s rich history and its unique connection to Malta.
Founded in 1875, the Championship club has released the Macron Blackburn Rovers 2025-26 150th anniversary jersey, inspired by the team’s first-ever kit.
The shirt features a clean all-white design with a blue Maltese Cross on the chest, reflecting the club’s longstanding historical ties to Malta. Like the original kits, the anniversary jersey is long-sleeved.
The Maltese connection dates back to 1890, when Blackburn Rovers toured the island, playing exhibition matches against local military teams. At the time, Malta was part of the British Empire, and the tour helped popularise football among the local population. The visit left such a strong impression that Blackburn incorporated the Maltese Cross into its badge, symbolising honour, heritage, and the friendship between the club and Malta , making Blackburn one of the few English clubs with a non-UK national symbol on its crest.
The limited-edition anniversary shirt is priced at £79.99, while a collector’s version, individually numbered from 1 to 500, costs £200. Season ticket holders are given priority access to the special release, making this commemorative kit a must-have for loyal fans.
