Birżebbuġa St Peter’s seal historic promotion after penalty drama

Birżebbuġa St Peter’s wrote a golden chapter in their history after defeating Swieqi United on penalties to win the BOV Challenge League promotion decider and secure their first‑ever place in the Malta Premier League. The match finished 1–1 after extra time, with Birżebbuġa holding their nerve in a tense shootout to prevail 7–6.

The celebrations were immediate and emotional as players, staff, and supporters erupted in joy at the Centenary Stadium. The victory means Birżebbuġa will join newly crowned champions Balzan in the top tier next season, marking a landmark moment for the southern club and its passionate community.

Following the final whistle, a Commemorative Plaque and Medals were presented to the team by Malta FA Senior Vice President Dr Matthew Paris, recognising their remarkable achievement.
