Birkirkara vs Gżira clash called off after goalpost measurement issue

The Malta Premier League encounter between Birkirkara FC and Gżira United was called off moments before kick-off following the discovery of a technical irregularity at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.

What was expected to be a routine start to proceedings quickly descended into confusion when concerns were raised during the pre-match warm-up. Birkirkara’s technical staff noticed a discrepancy in the height of the goalposts and immediately alerted the match officials.

Upon inspection and measurement, it emerged that one of the posts was between three and four centimetres lower than the required regulation height, rendering the playing conditions non-compliant. As a result, officials took the decision to postpone the fixture in the interest of fairness and safety.

Supporters who had gathered at the stadium were asked to leave, while Birkirkara opted to conduct a training session on the pitch. Gżira United, meanwhile, departed the venue shortly afterwards.
