Attard and Farrugia deliver grit and pride at European Off‑Road Championships

Malta’s trail‑running contingent produced two outstanding performances at the 2026 European Off‑Road Running Championships in Ljubljana–Kamnik, Slovenia, with Isaac Attard and Ryan Farrugia showcasing resilience, ambition, and national pride on Europe’s highest competitive stage.

Attard completed the 52km course featuring over 2,500m of elevation in an impressive 5 hours 19 minutes, navigating the brutal technical terrain with confidence. He described the experience as the fulfilment of a long‑held dream, expressing gratitude to coach Ivan Russu and the Malta Mountain & Trail Running community for their support.

Farrugia, competing in his seventh World & European championship, delivered another courageous run over the demanding mountain race, calling it “beautiful, savage, and not for the faint‑hearted.” He reflected on the years of preparation behind each finish line, praising his team, sponsors, and family for their unwavering backing.
