ASA President Hails Historic Achievement as San Ġiljan and Sliema Reach Final 8

ASA President Karl Izzo has praised the remarkable achievement of San Ġiljan ASC and Sliema ASC after both Maltese clubs secured a place in the Final 8 of the European Aquatics Water Polo Challenger Cup Men 2025/26. He described the moment as a landmark for Maltese water polo, reflecting years of development and growing ambition within the sport.

Izzo emphasised that participation at such an advanced stage of a European competition is a significant step forward for Malta. Competing against strong international opponents not only raises the level of local clubs but also strengthens the country’s presence on the continental stage.

He highlighted the importance of national pride and collective support, noting that having two Maltese teams among Europe’s top eight is an achievement that should inspire the entire sporting community. Izzo encouraged continued backing for both clubs as they prepare for the next phase of the tournament, carrying Malta’s hopes with them.
