ASA Launches New Water Polo Referees Academy
Local

The Aquatic Sports Association of Malta has announced the launch of the ASA Water Polo Referees Academy, a new initiative designed to elevate the standard of officiating in Maltese water polo and ensure the long‑term sustainability of the refereeing sector. The academy will be led by Mario Dalli and Ivan Sciriha, who will oversee the delivery of the Fundamental Course in Water Polo Refereeing.

As part of the ASA’s ongoing commitment to developing the sport, the programme will provide structured instructional support for both new and existing referees. Central to the initiative is a Foundation Lecture Programme made up of ten comprehensive sessions beginning on Saturday, 21st February. These lectures will give club‑nominated participants a solid grounding in the rules, interpretations, and core principles of water polo officiating.

The academy’s objectives include ensuring that every club has at least one knowledgeable representative, enabling clubs to benefit from informed assistance during friendly or internal matches, and identifying promising individuals for long‑term refereeing pathways.

Clubs are encouraged to nominate committed individuals who show interest and potential for future involvement in refereeing, supporting the ASA’s vision of strengthening the sport from its foundations.
