Malta has marked another significant milestone in handball, with Alan Grima appointed as an EHF Delegate for the Men’s EHF EURO 2026.

Grima will play a massive part in Europe’s premier national team handball tournament, hosted across Denmark, Sweden and Norway, with the tournament featuring 24 of the continent’s top national sides.

The Preliminary Round took place in Herning (Groups A and B), Oslo/Bærum (Groups C and D), Malmö (Group E) and Kristianstad (Group F).

The competition then moved into the Main Round in Herning (Group I) and Malmö (Group II), with Herning also staging the Final Weekend, including the 5th–6th place play-off, the semi-finals, the bronze medal match and the final.

Grima acted as supervisor for the opening fixture of the tournament between co-hosts Norway and Ukraine.

He was supported at the official table by EHF Observer Urmo Sitsi of Estonia, while Hungarian referees Ádám Bíró and Olivér Kiss were in charge of officiating duties.

The appointment highlights the growing trust placed in Maltese officials at the highest level of European handball and reflects the success of long-term investment by the Malta Handball Association in education, accreditation and ongoing professional development, further strengthening Malta’s position within the European Handball Federation.
