19 Cyclists Embark On Enduring African Challenge For Malta's Kidney Patients

With less than two weeks to go, 19 cyclists are in their final training stages before tackling almost 2,000 kilometers across Kenya, Uganda, and Rwanda in just 10 days. 3 participants from the original 22 where medically discharged during the training due to injuries.

This grueling challenge raises vital funds for individuals living with kidney failure in Malta and Gozo. Beyond supporting the Mater Dei renal ward's "Patient Wishlist" which includes sponsoring medical research with the University of Malta, medical equipment, transplant management software, and a pilgrimage to Lourdes for the patients and their nurses.

The Foundation also is raising funds to continue sponsoring patients with evening dialysis transport, wellness classes and therapeutic sessions for those who need.

This year's team features a diverse roster spanning Malta, England, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Ukraine, Russia, and Kenya. The most international squad since 1999. Ahead of their departure, the cyclists will visit the renal ward and meet with patients and nurses, then have their final meeting before departing on the 4th of September.

The Foundation invites the public to follow the team's journey and support the cyclists as they head towards Africa.
