Mattias Gatt made his debut with St Andrews FC Malta's senior team at just 17 years of age during the team's opening league match against Victoria Hotspurs.

His father, Joseph Gatt, took to social media to express how proud he was to watch his son make his debut, remarking that "as your father, I know how much work you have put into football from when you were still a little boy. I have seen the hard work, the sacrifices and also the difficult decisions you had to make, even at such a young age."

In spite of all the challenges Mattias had to face, "you kept going, kept working hard and kept believing. Today you got something back for all those years of dedication, and I couldn't be more proud of you."

His father thanked Luxol St Andrews for their faith not only in his son but also in other young players eager to make their mark.

Joseph concluded by encouraging Mattias to "enjoy this moment because you worked hard for it, but remember this is only the beginning. Stay humble, keep working hard and keep believing in yourself.Very proud of you, son. Keep going. Keep following your dreams."
