17 Achievements Recognised During EquestriMalta Awards 2026

Seventeen awards were presented during the EquestriMalta Awards 2026, in a ceremony celebrating sporting achievements during 2024 and 2025 across the disciplines of horse racing, show jumping and polo.
The awards recognised athletes who stood out for their performances and dedication, as well as individuals who made significant contributions to the development of the sport in Malta. Special recognition was also given to international achievements and outstanding contributions throughout sporting careers.
During the ceremony, Minister for Education and Sport Byron Camilleri congratulated the winners and thanked EquestriMalta for its work in continuing to raise standards and professionalism within equestrian sport. He reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to strengthening its support for athletes, associations and federations, while investing in modern sporting facilities.
Minister Camilleri explained that further improvements to the horse racing track are currently being studied, with the vision of developing it into a comprehensive sporting complex offering suitable facilities for horse owners and enthusiasts. At the same time, work is underway to address the challenges faced by the polo club, with the aim of providing the sport with a modern, state-of-the-art ground in the future, befitting a discipline with almost 150 years of tradition in Malta.
He remarked that "the achievements of our athletes are testament to the talent, dedication and potential of equestrian sport in our country. We must continue building on these successes by strengthening our support for athletes and federations and investing in facilities that provide them with the best possible conditions to progress. Our commitment is to ensure that this sport continues to grow and achieve further success, including at international level.”
He also recalled the success of Redent Magro, who became the second Maltese competitor to win the FEGAT World Trotting Championship, which was hosted in Malta last month. The Minister also praised the Malta Equestrian Federation for the investment made in the MonteKristo arena, with the support of EquestriMalta, which will further improve the facilities available to athletes.
Minister Camilleri also referred to the Government’s investment in sport, with Budget 2027 providing a record allocation of almost €28 million, representing a 43% increase on the previous year, with a substantial portion dedicated to improving sporting infrastructure.
Minister Camilleri concluded by reiterating the Government’s commitment to continuing its investment in sport and creating further opportunities for Maltese and Gozitan athletes, both nationally and internationally.
