SpongeBob To Actually Perform Iconic Track During Superbowl

SpongeBob To Actually Perform Iconic Track During Superbowl

One of the beloved episodes of “SpongeBob SquarePants,” titled “Band Geeks,” is set to come to life during Nickolodeon’s first-ever Super Bowl broadcast. CBS revealed that SpongeBob and the Bikini Bottom band will open the broadcast with a performance of “Sweet Victory.”

However, the rendition will differ from the original 2001 animation, as the sequence will be reanimated in CGI, showcasing an uncanny-valley look for the characters.

Despite the slightly unnerving new design, the iconic song is expected to captivate audiences, marking a unique start to a real Super Bowl broadcast.

Nick’s kid-friendly Super Bowl broadcast will feature several of the network’s well-known characters hosting a version of the game.

While this will be SpongeBob’s first performance during the Super Bowl, it’s not the first time the fan-favorite episode has been referenced. In 2019, Squidward introduced the halftime show in a brief clip.

Fans had long hoped for “Sweet Victory” to receive a Super Bowl spotlight, leading to a Change.org petition in 2018, which garnered over 1.2 million signatures and eventually resulted in Squidward’s appearance at the Super Bowl a few months later.
