Spanish FA President Luis Rubiales has issued an apology after having sparked a controversy for kissing footballer Jennifer Hermoso on the lips in celebration of the World Cup Final trophy victory.
When Hermoso went to collect her medal on the trophy podium, following a 1-0 win over England, Rubiales embraced her and kissed her on the lips.

On Monday, Rubalies said: “I was completely wrong, I have to admit it. It was without bad intention at a time with a lot of excitement. In the moment, we saw it as natural, but outside a commotion has formed. I have to apologise, learn from this, and understand that when you are president you have to be more careful.”
Hermoso herself spoke out after the incident, saying that she did not enjoy it. She later told AFP that despite the incident, the president’s behaviour with all of the players had always been outstanding and it was ‘a natural gesture of affection and gratitude.’
