Skyscraper land? St. Julian’s to welcome another 33-storey tower after ERA approves proposal

The bustling entertainment hub of St. Julian’s will welcome another 33-storey tower after the Environment and Resources Authority (ERA) green-lighted a proposal.

The project, led by PX Lettings’ Paul Xuereb and architect Christian Spiteri, will match Joseph Portelli’s neighbouring Mercury Tower project, which is also currently in development. Times of Malta have also highlighted that such an approval cleared a ‘significant regulatory hurdle’.

The tower, which will include office space, residential areas, restaurants and parking facilities, was approved after the ERA’s consideration of an Environmental Impact Assessment and comments from the public during a stipulated 30-day consultation period.

As the busy commercial hub continues to welcome high-rise developments, could we be witnessing the future of St. Julian’s in motion? 🏙

WATCH: At least 8 dead as Storm Eunice rips through most of Europe

An Atlantic storm by the name of Storm Eunice has claimed the lives of at least 8 people as winds of up to 196km ripped through most of Northwestern Europe in the past days.

Amongst other unfortunate casualties, three people in the Netherlands were killed by toppling trees whilst a woman was killed in London when a tree collapsed onto her car. Venues such as London’s O2 arena also registered significant damages after the wind shredded its domed roof. Together with similar establishments such as Printworks London, performers scheduled for shows at the O2 had to postpone to ensure the safety of their fans and clients.

A Met Office spokesperson highlighted that the storm’s fiercest winds were heading to Scandinavia and northern mainland Europe, where further warnings have been issued.

Eurovision classics night brings feel-good factor as final 17 revealed

Yesterday’s ‘special‘ Eurovision Song Malta show truly did live up to its name as legends in Maltese Eurovision history returned to the stage to bring back some of Malta’s favourite tunes before the final 16 were revealed.

With 6 eliminated, the 16 which were voted to perform in tonight’s final are Enya Magri, Sarah Bonnici, Matt Blxck, Denise Mercieca, Norbert Bondin, Raquel Galdes Briffa, Mark Anthony Bartolo, Baklava ft. Nicole, Aidan, Janice Mangion, Nicole Hammett, Nicole Azzopardi, Richard Edwards, Giada, Emma Muscat and Miriana Conte.

The night was characterised by collaborations between past & present Maltese artists singing classic Eurovision tracks, with appearances from the likes of Chiara Siracusa, Mary Spiteri, Renato, Ira Losco & so many more.

An additional ‘wildcard’ round of televoting also allowed Jessika to come back from the last 6 and perform at tonight’s Eurovision Song Malta final with her song ‘Kaleidoscope’.

After putting on a show-stopping local performance at the MFCC, Emma Muscat is the winner of this year’s Eurovision Song Malta and will be heading to the European stage in Turin.

Emma Muscat returned to the Maltese scene after consistently topping the Italian charts and after putting on a stellar audiovisual performance and gaining the attention of audiences across Malta and Gozo, managed to bag the win in this year’s competition.

Malta will be performing in the second Eurovision Song Contest Semi-Final in May.

A huge well done and good luck goes out to Emma! As always, Forza Malta!
