Philippa Busuttil, accompanied by her coach, Dario Santacroce, represented Malta at the 6th Mediterranean Artistic Gymnastics Championships. This prestigious event was held in Istanbul, Turkey, between October 20th and October 22nd, 2023. Philippa’s participation marked her second appearance at the Mediterranean Artistic Gymnastics Championships, an event organised by Comegym.

The Championships featured male and female gymnasts from the Junior National teams of Italy, Turkey, Egypt, Algeria, Cyprus, and Jordan, making it a highly competitive event.

In the qualifying rounds, Philippa faced fierce competition, especially from Italy and Turkey, each fielding a team of three exceptionally strong gymnasts. Philippa’s performance secured her a 6th place all-around finish from 9 participants, earning her a well-deserved place in the Finals events for Balance Beam, Uneven Bars, and Floor.

The highlight of her performance came on the Balance Beam, where Philippa delivered a solid routine, resulting in a silver medal placement with less than 0.4 points separating her from the top position. It is a particularly significant achievement for Philippa, who narrowly missed bronze medals by 0.1 points on both Balance Beam and Floor in the previous Championships.

This victory marks a historic moment for Maltese gymnastics as Philippa Busuttil becomes the first Maltese gymnast to secure a medal at the Comegym Junior Mediterranean Artistic Gymnastics Championships. This silver medal represents a significant achievement for the gymnastics community in Malta.

It is a proud moment for the Malta Gymnastics Federation, and it symbolizes the immense potential that Maltese athletes possess on the international stage.

Last night, at The Colosseum in Caesars Palace, Las Vegas, Adele took a moment during her performance to pay tribute to the late Matthew Perry, known for his iconic role as Chandler Bing in the television show Friends.

Adele also commended Perry’s courage in openly discussing his battles with addiction and journey towards sobriety, a struggle she herself has faced. She expressed deep admiration for Perry’s candidness and acknowledged his role in creating one of the greatest comedic characters of all time.

In a touching gesture, Adele dedicated her rendition of ‘When We Were Young’ to Matthew Perry. Tragically, news broke of Perry’s passing at his Los Angeles residence on October 28th, at the age of 54. While authorities have ruled out foul play, the official cause of death remains under investigation.

This heartfelt tribute stands as a testament to the profound impact Perry had, not only on Adele, but on countless fans around the world.

The Nationalist Party yesterday held a protest outside Castille, and saw Opposition Leader Bernard Grech and former leader Adrian Delia, amongst others, addressing the Vitals-Steward ruling.

During his speech, Grech reiterated what the court ruling found when it comes to the Vitals-Steward controversy and what the €400 million ‘stolen from the people’ could have been used for.

Hundreds Of Families Join First Wirt In-Natura Halloween Edition

Hundreds of families visited the Marsaskala Family Park to join in the activities of the first Halloween edition of the popular environmental event Wirt in-Natura, on Sunday.

Hosted by the Ministry for the Environment, Energy and Enterprise and Project Green, Wirt in-Natura was packed with entertainment for all the family, including educational games, trick-or-treating and other Halloween activities, hands-on gardening, live music, food and drink stalls, art and craft sessions, face painting and more.

Teams from Ambjent Malta, Circular Economy Malta, the Energy and Water Agency, the Environment and Resources Authority, Saving our Blue campaign and WasteServ Malta met visitors to share information and advice about different environmental themes.

Sunday’s Wirt in-Natura also marked the opening of a new, 1,300-square-metre picnic area in part of the park that was previously unused. Project Green regenerated this area with a flower-shaped shading structure, new trees and shrubs, picnic tables and other related works.

Minister for the Environment, Energy and Enterprise Miriam Dalli noted that, every year, Wirt in-Natura brings many families closer to Malta’s parks.

“Green open spaces have a significant positive impact on our wellbeing and quality of life. We are working tirelessly to improve our existing parks, while creating many new ones in different localities. The new picnic area we started using today is adding new facilities to make it easier for people to spend more time at this park,” Minister Miriam Dalli said.

Project Green CEO Steve Ellul explained that the new picnic area at the Marsaskala Park presents a fusion of artistry and functionality to ensure that this open space can be used throughout the year, reducing weather restrictions.

“Project Green is determined to continue attracting people to the parks, whilst providing a platform for local artists and Maltese culture. Wirt in-Natura is another in a series of events we are organising to give people a natural environment for relaxation and fun with their loved ones,” Mr Ellul said.

In December, the Ministry for the Environment, Energy and Enterprise will be hosting the third edition of Christmas in the Park, another popular environmentally themed family event at the Salina National Park, St Paul’s Bay.
