Sense Group Raises Alarm Over Drunk Driving In Malta

The Sense Group, which represents Malta’s alcohol beverage industry, has raised concerns over a recent increase in drunk driving accidents and fatalities.
The organisation described these incidents as preventable.
In a statement, The Sense Group noted that it has been promoting awareness about drinking and driving for more than twenty years, including through campaigns, educational programmes, and the website drinkawaremalta.com.
Last year it ran the “Arrive Alive. Don’t Drink and Drive” campaign across Maltese media, stressing the risks not only to drivers but also to other road users.
The group urged authorities to enforce existing laws more strictly and increase public awareness. It also highlighted the role of friends and bar operators in discouraging individuals from driving after consuming alcohol, noting that taxis are widely available.
The Sense Group’s comments come amid a series of recent road accidents in Malta involving drivers under the influence of alcohol.
