Selena Gomez is officially engaged to musician Benny Blanco. The singer and former Disney star shared the exciting news on Instagram Wednesday night, showing off a massive diamond ring in photos of the happy couple.

Captioning the post with “Forever begins now,” Selena sparked an outpouring of congratulations, including Benny’s playful comment, “Hey wait…that’s my wife,” which delighted fans.

26% Increase In Maltese Men Doing Housework, Cooking

Men’s contribution to cooking and housework in Malta increased by 26% between 2016 and 2022, according to the European Gender Equality Index (GEI).

By 2022, 63% of men and 78% of women reported doing daily cooking and housework, narrowing the gender gap in this area by 29 percentage points (pp).

This change was driven primarily by men’s increased participation, as women’s contribution decreased slightly by 3 pp. However, gaps remain pronounced among couples with children (30 pp) and individuals aged 50–64 (28 pp).

Progress was also noted in education. In 2022, 31% of men and 50% of women were tertiary students in fields such as education, health, and humanities, reducing the gender gap in these fields from 22 pp to 19 pp since 2021.

Despite gains in some areas, women’s representation in leadership remains low. In 2024, only 15% of senior and junior ministerial positions in Malta were held by women, down 5 pp from 2023 and well below the EU average.

In health, self-reported “good” or “very good” health improved for both genders since 2010, though significant disparities persist among single individuals, those with lower education, and lone parents, disproportionately affecting women.

Meta-Owned Platforms Go Down For Few Hours On Wednesday

Meta-owned platforms Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp experienced a global outage on Wednesday evening due to a “technical issue.”

The disruption began around 7 pm Central European Time (CET) and lasted for several hours.

Downdetector, a site tracking app and website outages, recorded a significant spike in reports, with over 23,900 users flagging Facebook issues, 72% of which were app-related.

Similarly, more than 15,000 WhatsApp users reported problems, 79% citing difficulties with sending messages. The outages were consistent worldwide, impacting Europe and other regions equally.

Meta updated users via social media platform X, apologizing and assuring efforts to restore service promptly. By 11:30 pm CET, outages had largely subsided, and Meta announced they were “99% of the way there” in resolving the issue.

These services collectively serve billions of users—Facebook and WhatsApp each have about 3 billion active users, while Instagram has 2 billion.

54 Year Old Man At Risk Of Dying After Motorcycle Crash

A 54 year old Englishman resident of Mellieha was taken to Mater Dei Hospital yesterday at around 1700hrs, after he was injured in a traffic accident in Dawret San Pawl, St Paul’s Bay.

Preliminary investigations show that the man was driving a Honda motorcycle, lost control and crashed into a skip on the road.

He was given medical aid on site and transported to Mater Dei via ambulance. He was later certified as having suffered serious injuries.

An inquiry has been opened and investigations are ongoing.
