Second Turtle Nest Of 2025 Begins Hatching

Just after midnight, a sudden burst of activity was seen at the second nest of 2025 in Ghadira, as 21 turtle hatchlings emerged from the sand and quickly made their way to the sea.
Wildlife Rescue Team Malta said, “Thanks to Dolphin Ears, we had signs over the past few days that the pipping process had started, however this can take up to 7 days until the hatchlings complete the whole process, and therefore it’s not always obvious when the exact hatching day will be.”
The hatchlings moved with impressive speed, reaching the water within just 15 minutes.
To capture the moment without disturbing the turtles, footage was taken using an infrared camera with only red light avoiding any white light or flashes that could harm the hatchlings.
The Wildlife Rescue Team expressed their gratitude to all volunteers on duty and to officials from the Environment and Resources Authority (ERA) for their invaluable support during the hatching.
