Summer has truly arrived in Malta, with the island set to face an intense heatwave as temperatures are expected to climb to a sweltering 39°C this week.

The soaring heat is being driven by the first appearance of the African anticyclone this season, bringing scorching conditions across the Mediterranean.

Starting Sunday 20th July, temperatures will feel as high as 39°C, accompanied by an extreme UV index of 11, indicating a very high risk of harm from unprotected sun exposure.

The heat is set to persist into the following days. Even Monday 21st July, the week’s “coolest” day, is forecast to reach highs of around 37°C.

Authorities are urging the public to take the necessary precautions: stay hydrated, avoid direct sun during peak hours, and apply sunscreen regularly.

Whether you’re relaxing by the pool or heading to the beach with friends, be sure to put your health and safety first in this intense summer heat.
