Scorching Heatwave To Hit Malta Next Week

Malta is heading into a week of extreme heat, with real-feel temperatures expected to exceed 40°C from Monday through Friday, according to the Meteorological Office.
While actual temperatures will range from 32°C to 40°C, the heat index is forecast to peak at 42°C on Tuesday, with similarly high levels expected throughout the week. The UV index will also hit an extreme level of 11 on Wednesday.
The heatwave is considered unusual, driven by a jet stream pulling in hot desert air rather than typical high-pressure systems. Hazy skies caused by suspended desert dust may also occur.
Authorities advise staying hydrated, limiting outdoor activity during peak hours, and following public health guidance.
Experts warn that Europe is warming at roughly twice the global rate, leading to longer and more intense heatwaves.
However, following these days, strong northwesterly winds are forecast, which should bring some relief to the central Mediterranean region.
