This edition of the Olympic games brought with it iconic moments, peculiar occurrences and a number of unforgettable records.

The Maltese contingent in Tokyo gave a strong effort, but the highlight for Malta was surely the women’s 100m event where young athlete Carla Scicluna qualified to the semi-finals. Italy again impressed and shocked everyone, just like they did at the Eurovision and Euro’s. The Italians won the 4x100m relay, won gold in 100m and broke a record, when Gianmarco Tamberi became the first ever athlete to share a gold medal in athletics.

Huge steps for the LGBTQ community were also made in this Olympics.. Laurel Hubbard became the first transgender person to compete and Canadian footballer Quinn became the first non-binary and transgender person to win gold. American gymnast Simone Biles shed light on mental health when she decided not to compete in numerous of her events to protect and maintain her mental health.

The runner was caught knocking off all the bottles of water, until the last available one, which he took. The world record-holder Eliud Kipchoge successfully retained his gold medal, finishing the race in 2:08:38. As of right now the IOC haven’t said anything about the matter. Since the Olympics are now over there most probably won’t be any repercussions on Morhad Amdouni.
