Rural area in Żebbuġ enjoys brand new aesthetically-pleasing facade

A rural road in Zebbug’s Wied Baqqiegha now enjoys a brand new, aesthetically-pleasing facade after a number of works were carred out in the area.

In an attempt to elevate the country’s rural aesthetic whilst respecting the environment, Malta’s Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Capital Projects Aaron Farrugia said that they made sure the road was given a more attractive facade than the ‘standard concrete’.

In a comment on the Minister’s Facebook post, independent councillor Steve Zammit Lupi called the Zebbug works “an example of work done with cooperation and communication with the Council.

“Thank you Aaron and Infrastructure Malta for welcome the proposal made by councillor Patrick and myself in order to give Zebbug’s rural area of Wied Baqqiegha the aesthetic look the rural area deserves, an area which is frequented by pedestrians and cyclists.”

This is your chance to meet renowned Italian chef Bruno Barbieri

Renowned International chef Bruno Barbieri is currently in Malta to film his hit Italian show “4 Hotel,” where four hotels will compete to showcase their superior hospitality and service.

A Michelin-star chef with a career spanning over three decades, Barbieri will spend a week on the island evaluating and judging the hotels’ skills.

On the 27th of January, the filming of the show will officially come to a close, but you will have the chance to meet Barbieri at an exclusive end-of-shooting celebration party organised by Life Events – CEO Simone Neri – in collaboration with Upperfood.

All attendees will have the one in a lifetime chance to interact with the chef and other well known personalities – and capture some snapshots at the same time. These include the likes of star chef Marvin Gauci, who is expected to participate in the event.

Participants will also be able to taste a large buffet with products of Italian excellence directly from Upperfood, all accompanied by wines from the best Italian cellars.

Barbieri became a household name in Italy as a judge on popular coking chef MasterChef Italia, and later as. Host of the food and travel show ‘4 Hotel.’

What should you do in the event of an earthquake?

Here are some tips to follow in the case of an intense earthquake…

Four words: Drop. Cover. Hold on.

Drop onto your hands and knees before the earthquake knocks you down. This will allow you to move whilst staying safe.

Cover your head and neck underneath a sturdy desk, near an interior wall or next to low-lying furniture which won’t fall on you. Cover your head and neck.

Hold onto your shelter until the shaking stops. Be prepared to move with the shelter if it moves.

If you are inside, stay inside. You are less likely to be injured if you stay where you are.

If you can, move away from glass, hanging objects, bookcases and other large furniture which could fall. Watch for falling bricks, light fixture and cabinets with doors which can swing open.

If you are in the kitchen, quickly turn off the stove and take cover at the first sign of shaking. If you are in bed, hold on and stay there whilst protecting your head with a pillow.

If you are outside, stay outside. Move away from buildings, utility wires, sinkholes and fuel and gas lines. The area near the outside walls of a building is the most dangerous place to be.

If you are in a moving vehicle, stop as quickly and safely as possible. Set the parking brake and listen to broadcast information.

Do not use the elevators as electricity may go out. If you are trapped, stay calm. Try to get someone’s attention by tapping on hard or metallic parts of the structure.

If you are in a crowded place, drop, cover and hold on. Do not run for the doorways as others will do so.

Over 100 earthquakes registered in Malta in just 8 days

Dr. Daniela Farrugia, a Researcher at UOM Seismic Monitoring and Research, confirmed with Malta Daily, that Malta experienced more than a 100 earthquakes in the past 8 days.

Since the 17th of January, the UOM Seismic Monitoring system recorded more than a 100 earthquakes. This is not the first time such a sequence happened, said Dr. Farrugia.

In fact, during the past few hours a magnitude-five earthquake was felt across the Malta, followed by two smaller aftershocks.

The earthquake, which measured 5.2 on the Richter Scale, struck some 100km south of Malta at 9:25pm.

The UOM SMRG, later also recorded two smaller quakes measuring 4.3 and 3.6 on the Richter Scale.
