Volunteers from Nature Trust – FEE Malta have just completed a vital task in Għadira Bay: preparing the runway that will guide newly hatched turtles safely from their nest to the sea.

With the eggs expected to hatch any day now, this runway plays a crucial role in giving the tiny hatchlings the best possible start to life.

For turtles, the short journey from sand to sea is one of the most dangerous stages of their survival. Disorientation from lights, noise, or human interference can drastically reduce their chances of making it to the water.

Thanks to the dedicated efforts of volunteers, this carefully prepared pathway will help the hatchlings follow the natural glow of the sea and avoid unnecessary obstacles.

But the responsibility doesn’t stop with the volunteers. Everyone visiting Għadira Bay has to play a part in protecting these fragile creatures. Visitors are urged to stay away from the marked nesting area, avoid bright lights and flash photography at night, and keep noise to a minimum.

Together, small actions can make a big difference. With community support, Għadira Bay will continue to be a safe haven for marine life and a shining example of conservation in action.
